Our maille may not actually stop arrows, but it looks great!

You'll find the maille shop sections over to the left of your screen - we've split the shop into different metals for your ease of reference.

Weaving chain maille (also known as maille or chainmail) is one of our favourite tasks here at Twisted Trinkets. Just as well, because these creations take an absolute age!

The process hasn't changed much over the centuries - we still take metal wire, coil it around a suitably sized mandrel (aka 'knitting needle'!) and saw each ring individually using a piercing saw with a fine blade to achieve the neatest of closures in the finished product. Each ring is opened using 2 pairs of pliers and woven into the pattern, then closed with the pliers.

There are thousands of different maille weaves out there and we will gradually bring you a selection as we first learn how to create & then perfect them! Maille can be very fluid or almost solid, depending on the weave and the wire gauge employed. The resultant chains can be suprisingly delicate or satisfyingly chunky, making maille jewellery attractive to all whether male, female or all points in between.

As with all our sterling silver items, all sterling silver maille pieces over 7.78g in weight are hallmarked with Louise O'Prey's Maker's Mark at the London Assay Office. We will re-stock the sterling silver section as soon as possible!

We've taken an ancient art and given it a modern twist by using enameled and anodised metals, as well as more traditional materials such as bronze and copper. In order to save a little time & cost, we do buy in some ready made rings, particularly the enameled and anodised metals, as well as the aluminium. Our suppliers are carefully chosen for the quality of their rings & we only use those who machine-cut as well as we do by hand!

Most items can be shortened or lengthened by up to 1 inch for no extra cost & we're pleased to guarantee all maille items for 12 months following purchase. By its nature of weaving jump rings together without soldering every link, maille can sometimes pull apart if caught, for example, in a sleeve. All we ask is that you cover the cost of posting your piece back to us & we'll repair it for free, should you be unlucky enough to have this happen to you.
